Summit Lake, Shasta County, 8/19/06

I took the family and a friend of Steven's (my son) to Summit Lake, Lassen Park, for a bit of swimming. Our good friend Rick Somers met us up there. I did the obligatory loop around the lake looking for photographic opportunities. Pretty uneventful overall. It was cloudy, windy, with rain and thunder after a bit (that's when we left).

damselfly

There were quite a few spreadwings along the lake margins and a few inland. It being a National Park, I couldn't net any, but they appeared to be Northerns and Emeralds. I'm pretty sure this teneral female is an Emerald Spreadwing.

I saw several Striped Meadowhawks and this teneral male meadowhawk, which I think is a White-faced Meadowhawk; if so, it's the first I've seen on my many trips to Summit Lake.
damselfly

Same individual after it flew into a tree. It was hanging tail down. I turned the photo on its side to show more detail.
moth

Unknown moth, very small. I didn't have much opportunity to take its picture and the photo is pretty heavily cropped.
moth

Pixel level crop of same picture.
grasshopper

Grasshopper - Fairly large (~2 in.) with lime green wings edged in black.
grasshopper

Grasshopper - Similar wing patter to one above but smaller; different species?.
