Baum Lake and Shingletown Meadow, Shasta County, 9/9/06
Pretty slow day. I expected Baum and Crystal Lakes to be hopping with odes. But there was barely any activity at all. One Libellula skimmer (12-spot?) and a couple of Striped Meadowhawks, several darners of three types (Common Green<<-actually lots of these--, Blue-eyed, and Aeshna sp.), and a few species of damsel (Tule Bluet, Pacific Forktail, Western Forktail). Stopped by Shingletown Meadow on the way home. Not many odes there either.

Tule Bluet male, Baum Lake. I haven't a clue what it has in its mouth. |

Western Forktail male, Baum Lake. |
Striped Meadowhawk female, Baum Lake. |
Mylitta(?) Crescent, Crystal Lake. |
Fiery Skipper(?) female (Hylephila phyleus), Crystal Lake. |
Common Branded Skipper(?) - Hesperia comma, Baum Lake. |
Woodland Skipper(?) female (Ochlodes sylvanoides), Shingletown Meadow. |
Woodland Skipper(?) on aster, Shingletown Meadow. |
Woodland Skipper(?) male on star thistle, Shingletown Meadow. |
Western Fence Lizard, Baum Lake. It was pretty good sized for a Western Fence and not too shy. |
Same lizard. It got so accustomed to my presence, it started to nod off. I'd take a shot and its eyes would open all the way. By the time the flash recharged, it was napping again. |
