Reflection Lake, Lassen Park, Shasta County, 09/17/06
Steven and I went to Reflection Lake in Lassen Park. Lots of ode activity, especially Aeshna darners and Saffron-winged meadowhawks.

Paddle-tailed Darner, female, ovipositing. Steven found this pose for me as well as several others. |
|
Same female darner resting. Getting her properly exposed meant overexposing the pale, well lit wood on the right. |
![]() Closeup of appendage on above picture. Note pointy projection, which I think is what she uses to penetrate woody vegetation. |
|
Variable Darner female ovipositing. Steven found this individual as I was trying for a Saffron-winged male. |
