Lassen County - Part 3, Other Dragonflies, 8/10/06
I was also able to photograph some dragonflies of the non-skimmer variety, including my first picture of Mountain Emerald.

This female darner (65 mm long) was captured at White Horse Reservoir. The bug nets were in the car but I was able to swat her out of the air with my hat. I think she may be a Paddle-tailed Darner. See picture of face below. |

Mountain Emerald male - Susan River. When I first saw him, he was patrolling the river. He dipped his tail in the water a few times and flew to a nearby tree, too high up for a shot. He then flew low down in another tree, where these pictures were taken. |
